Result of Service
We are seeking specialist expertise to produce a Science-Policy Brief. This is expected to be approximately 15 pages in length, addressing key issues set out by the policy community, highlighting the implications, legal and otherwise, of various options for international agreements to take action on methane. The selected Consultant(s) will be responsible for liaising with the CCAC’s Scientific Advisory Panel on the brief, and seeking other expert input.

Duties and Responsibilities
The UNEP-convened Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a partnership of governments, intergovernmental organizations, and representatives of the private sector, the environmental community, and other members of civil society. The CCAC is the only international initiative working on integrated climate and clean air solutions to reduce the rate of near-term warming. It focuses on fast action to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) including methane, black carbon, HFCs and tropospheric ozone. More information about the CCAC is here: www.ccacoalition.org The CCAC Secretariat team is also providing secretariat services to the Global Methane Pledge. More information about the Global Methane Pledge is here: www.globalmethanepledge.org The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosts the Secretariat at the Economy Division in Paris. The CCAC Secretariat is seeking Consultant(s) to work with the CCAC’s Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP) to produce a Science-Policy brief outlining legal options for international agreements to take action on methane.

Qualifications/special skills
A higher-level degree (PhD or equivalent) in a field related to climate change, environmental law, or environmental science. An undergraduate degree in combination with ten (10) years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of a PhD. – Demonstrable experience producing science–policy content on methane, other SLCPs or related issues – Excellent writing and communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity and brevity – Strong understanding of legal and policy processes related to the CCAC, and UNFCCC and other international agreements – Proven ability to interpret complex technical material for non-specialist audiences

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.
