Context
International Youth Day (IYD) is commemorated annually on August 12th to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing young people around the world. It serves as a platform to promote youth engagement and celebrate their contributions to society, development, and peace. The theme for 2025 International Youth Day is “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond” which places a strong emphasis on the transformative role of young people in the localization of the SDGs, translating the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into local realities. This theme recognizes that young people are not merely beneficiaries of development, but are active agents of change, innovation, and leadership. It acknowledges the need for youth inclusion in local governance processes, as their creativity, energy, and community knowledge are essential for addressing the complex and interconnected challenges of our time. As a key implementing entity of the Youth2030 Strategy, UNDP remains committed to ensuring that no young person is left behind and that youth voices are amplified. Through climate action, democratic governance, digital transformation and socio-economic empowerment, UNDP prioritizes youth empowerment as a cornerstone of sustainable development. The International Youth Day (IYD) 2025 is an opportunity to amplify further youth voices and stories in contribution to the SDGs and to showcase UNDP’s support to youth empowerment initiatives across regions. On that occasion, UNDP is developing a creative communication campaign to be launched in August 2025. While IYD 2025 will mark the kick-start of the campaign, the created content will be used later to mark other international days, including International Day of Democracy (September 15th) and International Peace Day (September 21st).
Task Description
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking a skilled AI video animator or motion designer to help produce a flagship 90-second video for International Youth Day 2025, themed “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond.” Working closely with UNDP’s youth team, the selected volunteer will animate a pre-scripted video trailer that highlights five youth activists (one per UNDP region) working at the local level to advance the SDGs. The trailer will stitch together clips from each youth impact story (collected from each region) with quippy visuals, dynamic motion graphics, and text overlays that reflect the energy, urgency, and hope of youth-led action. This video will serve as the introductory piece for the IYD global campaign and be featured across UNDP’s social platforms (@UNDP4Youth), as well as on YouTube and partner channels. The campaign will also be extended to International Day of Democracy and the 10th Anniversary of UNSCR 2250, which established the Youth, Peace, and Security Agenda. Use AI-assisted or traditional animation tools to animate a 90-second video using pre-selected video/audio segments, infographics, and youth quotes. Ensure the animation style is energetic, youth-friendly, and accessible across platforms. Deliver the final product by August 1, 2025.
