About the position:
The Director of US Resilience will oversee the implementation of Americares US Resilience Program, focused on strengthening disaster resilience in frontline clinics and health centers. This includes managing partnerships, leading program execution, and guiding efforts to build, test, and scale preparedness and long-term disaster recovery strategies tailored for safety-net clinics. The Director will supervise staff overseeing a portfolio of projects designed to improve community resilience, health outcomes, and emergency response capacity.
Key Outcomes:
Within 30 Days:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s strategic goals and the theory of change for the US Resilience portfolio.
- Establish strong working relationships with team members, senior programs leadership, and key internal and external stakeholders.
- Drive a structured assessment to inform the design and transition of work from acute disaster response to long-term recovery.
Within 6 Months:
- In concert with the Senior Director, lead the design and implementation planning for the US Resilience portfolio, grounded in the theory of change and assessment findings.
- Supervise and support team members to ensure alignment with strategic goals and effective execution of program activities.
- Oversee and manage complex, multi-layered budgets within the portfolio (not department-wide), including subgrants and deliverables, ensuring financial alignment and compliance.
- Represent the portfolio in cross-functional initiatives and manage high-level external partnerships tied to US resilience and recovery.
Within 1 Year:
- Successfully lead the implementation of the US Resilience portfolio strategy, including measurable outcomes related to long-term recovery.
- Demonstrate improved operational and budgetary systems within the portfolio to enhance impact and sustainability.
- Foster a high-performing team environment, supporting staff in delivering on goals and professional development.
- Contribute to strategic organizational discussions, providing thought leadership in the areas of US resilience and post-disaster recovery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively model and contribute to Americares values, work culture and mission.

- Oversee and coordinate the implementation of the US Resilience Programs, ensuring alignment with the broader US Programs strategy set by the Sr. Director.
- Manage and expand clinic-focused community resilience initiatives, including climate-health resources, preparedness training, and long-term recovery support.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with clinics, local health departments, and key stakeholders to enhance resilience building efforts.
- Organize, attend, and participate in stakeholder meetings, ensuring effective collaboration with clinics, health departments, and resilience partners.
- Ensure effective cross-team collaboration, integrating technical expertise, disaster response coordination and health communication strategies into resilience initiatives.
- Regularly report initiative and program updates to the Sr. Director and VP, as well as external partners and workgroup leaders.
- Manage project budgets, work plans, and performance metrics, ensuring effective use of resources and compliance with funding requirements.
- Supervise and support program staff responsible for executing resilience-focused initiatives, including climate adaptation, emergency preparedness, and capacity building, including facilitating their professional growth and development.
- Support staffing needs, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management.
- Contribute to fundraising efforts by assisting with grant proposals, donor reporting, and engagement efforts in collaboration with the Sr. Director and VP.
- Serve as an external representative for Americares US Resilience Program, engaging with partner organizations, presenting program impact in relevant forums, and supporting visibility efforts in collaboration with Sr. Director.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Degrees and/or experience required for the role:
- 8+ years of experience in health, climate and disaster resilience, long-term recovery, communicable diseases, or emergency response program management.
- 3+ years of people management experience of mid-level professionals (manager level and above).
These competencies are required for the role:
- Demonstrated ability to oversee, coordinate, and align the implementation of programs to broader organizational strategy.
- Demonstrated partnership focus and competency with clinics, local health centers, or other US safety net providers.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing the project management life cycle for programs, including portfolio management, design, implementational, data collection and analysis, performance monitoring, and reporting and evaluation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to influence recommendations, give and receive feedback with clarity, and managing group communication towards alignment, and public speaking in small and large forums.
- Demonstrated experience supporting fundraising efforts through grant reports, donor reporting, and other engagement efforts.
- Demonstrated budget management experience with budgets of $1M or more, with complexity such as multi-layered budgets, subgrants, awards, and multiple deliverables.
- Demonstrated experience persuading stakeholders to adopt strategic quality improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency in data collection and reporting.
- Experience writing grants for state and federal funding and for charitable foundations, as well as with RFP development.
- Experience with program design (Theory of Change), implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and quality improvement methods.
These competencies would be great to have, but are not required:
- Fluency in languages that are spoken in at least one of our core locations (India, Philippines, Tanzania, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, etc.), in addition to English.
